Baccarat History
The present form of Baccarat can be
traced back to Italy. In the 1950’s the game was popularized in Vegas because of
the efforts of Frank Sinatra, a co-owner of The Sands at the time.
How to Play Baccarat
There are three bets available: The
Player’s hand, the Banker’s hand, or a Tie. A bet
on the Player pays even money. All
Tens and face cards have a value of 0. Even though the player dealing is acting as the Banker, he is not
obligated to bet on the Banker’s hand. After the Player’s hand is
complete, the Banker’s hand is dealt out according to the following
set of rules: If the Player did not draw a third card, then the
Banker only draws a card to a hand of 4 or less. Eventually,
baccarat evolved into European baccarat and the French game 'chemin de fer'. The interesting bit to observe of course is that the casino is taking no risk here; they simply charge a fee from each
banker. The result of the die decided her fate. The infamous Dunes casino introduced baccarat in the late 50's. The highest of the high rollers often come from overseas to try their hand under the chandeliers of the stylish Vegas baccarat rooms. A number of casinos have installed a smaller version of the baccarat game played on standard blackjack-sized gaming tables. It is played by the exact same rules, but lacks the accoutrements of the formal version. Lacking the formality and large group of players, mini-baccarat is played fast and is a good place to learn how to
play.
Baccarat Rules
The most important thing you need to know is whether
you are betting on the Player, on the Bank or on Tie. Betting on Tie is not really recommended because it decreases your winning
chances. Each player is given the bank in
turn and can hold the bank as long as the bank wins. Once the bank looses
it moves on to the next player. When nobody has a natural additional
cards are drawn to determine the baccarat winner. If the hand you bet on
wins you get a one to one payoff. This
is not only the case with single card values but with the result of
two cards combined. After all is said
and done, the hand with a point total closes to nine
wins. The game begins with players placing bets. After all bets are made, which cannot be
added to or retracted once play begins, the House will
deal four face-down cards - two cards each to both the
player and banker (House) After the cards are
finished being dealt, they are revealed and tabulated. One factor is how hand values are tabulated. Please note that both hands are allowed a maximum of one
card draw. In order to calculate a hand
total, simply add the value of the two cards. For instance, a hand of 5, Queen and 9 has a
value of 4 (5 + 0 + 9 = 14 - 10 = 4) Card draw determination is slightly more
involved and is often explained with a chart. I will try to simplify this as much as possible with a
few brief guidelines. If one hand is an 8 and the
other is a 9, the 9 wins. Once the player hand is finished and
standing, the bank hand will determine whether it must
draw a third card. Banker shows a 3
Banker Hand must Draw if player's draw card is a
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7
Banker Hand must Stand if player's draw card is an 8. (Thus the value of a hand is always between 0 through 9).
- The maximum number of cards in a baccarat hand is three,,
- If the banker or the player has an eight (natural eight) or a nine (natural nine) on the first two cards dealt, no further cards are
drawn,,
- The player always draws when the hand is a five or less, unless the banker has a natural, and stands on a six and
seven,,
- the banker always stands if the player stands on a six or a seven
. The task for you as a player is to bet on the banker's hand, the player's hand, or a draw, which means that the two hands are tied. Baccarat rules state that winning banker bets are subject to a 5% house commission. The advantage is slim, in the area
0,,8%, but in the world of gambling that's really not that small. It may still be a good idea to try it online first, and within minutes you'll feel comfortable enough to play anywhere. Dealers normally wear tuxedos and the surrounding are is quite lavish. This means the game is quite simple especially as there are only three possible bets that can be made. Each player takes it in turns to deal from the shoe there is however no advantage to be gained from it and it is just part of the tradition of the game. If the dealer has 1 then he must draw. If the dealer has 4 then he must draw if your card is a 2-3-4-5-6-7. If the dealer has 5 then he must draw if your card is a 4-5-6-7. If the dealer has 8 then he must stand.
Tips
- Depending on the number of decks being played, the casino advantage for the player hand wager is generally 15%, whereas on the banker hand it is only 16%. This tip is not to say that a player should never bet on the player hand, for sometimes a hunch can be the best thing going for a gambler. Since the house edge is relatively similar for both bets, it is presumptuous to entirely negate the player hand wager.
- Play Baccarat Games with the fewest decks. Looking at the House Edge, it is lowered, albeit not substantially, for every deck taken out of the equation.
- sometimes casinos will only impose a 4% commission, which brings the House Edge on the banker bet down to only approximately %. Any informed player would see that this bet is one of the best in the casino.
- Any system like the Martingale, which is designed to cover losses, should be avoided. Whatever you decide to follow, be sure you plan ahead of time.
