Baccarat History
Although it has always been a popular game in European and Latin
American casinos, it never caught on as strongly as Blackjack in US
casinos. Mini
Baccarat has the same rules as Baccarat but has lower stakes and is
played on a standard Blackjack shaped table.
How to Play Baccarat
Baccarat is a very simple game to play with no decisions
made after a bet is placed. A bet
on the Player pays even money. Even though the player dealing is acting as the Banker, he is not
obligated to bet on the Banker’s hand. After players make their bets the dealer
deals a two-card hand to the Banker and Player. After the Player’s hand is
complete, the Banker’s hand is dealt out according to the following
set of rules: If the Player did not draw a third card, then the
Banker only draws a card to a hand of 4 or less. There are many debates pertaining to the history of baccarat, particularly where the game was invented: France or Italy. D. Eventually,
baccarat evolved into European baccarat and the French game 'chemin de fer'. Chemin de fer is very similar to
baccarat as it's played in American casinos today. Falguiere based the game on an old Etruscan ritual of the nine gods, who prayed to a blonde virgin on their tiptoes waiting for her to throw a nine-sided die. The infamous Dunes casino introduced baccarat in the late 50's. It has kept it's elegant trait and is still one of the most appealing games to the well situated individuals in our
society. The limits are lower and usually range from a $2 to $5 minimum, up to $500 maximum.
Baccarat Rules
Baccarat, pronounced "Bah-Caw-Rah", is probably one of the easiest and uncomplicated
table games there is. Betting on Tie is not really recommended because it decreases your winning
chances. It doesn't matter which seat you take at the baccarat table because
unlike in Black Jack you are not playing against other players or against
the house. So never
mind what the other players bet on or how much they bet. The baccarat game is now ready to
play. Before the cards are dealt each baccarat
player has to make his bet. Unlike in Black
Jack it is impossible to overdraw in Baccarat. Essentially, only three bets can potentially be made - A
bet for the player's hand to win, the banker's hand to
win, or a tie. Depending on hand outcomes, the player hand will either
draw a third card or stand. The hand closest
to a total value of nine wins. Please note that both hands are allowed a maximum of one
card draw. a baccarat hand will never exceed
three cards total. If this
sum goes over ten, subtract ten and you will have the
final value. A hand of seven and four has a
value of 1. If
both hands have an 8 or 9, the game is deemed a tie, in
which all Tie Bets win. If one hand is an 8 and the
other is a 9, the 9 wins. Player shows a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
or 0
Player Hand must Draw. Winning bets on the player hand pay back 1 to 1, while
winning bets on the banker hand do the same, but with a
5% vig (commission) winning tie bets pay back 9 to 1. An ace counts as 1, two counts as 2,
etc,, , up through nine counts as 9, but tens (jacks, queens and kings) count as 0. There are two hands dealt regardless of how many players there are: the banker's hand and the player's hand. With a total of 6 or less, his selection depends on the value of his two card total and the value of the card that the player drew. This is of course because there is more of a chance for a banker win. The advantage is slim, in the area
0,,8%, but in the world of gambling that's really not that small. So from reading this page you should have picked up enough about baccarat rules to play a game. Baccarat has a reputation for being a high rollers game and the tables are normally separate from the rest of the casino in there own section called the pit. Three dealers run the game and one of these is the caller who runs the game and stands between positions 1 and 15. When the bank wins the house claims a %5 cut of the winnings and the total amount is collected every time the shoe is reshuffled. If the hand is greater than 10 then 10 is subtracted from the total, this means that the value of the hand is always 0-9. Player and dealer are both dealt two cards to start with, if either of them has a two card total of 8 or 9 then they must immediately turn over the cards. If your score is below 6 then you must hit and receive a third card, if you receive a third card then the dealer takes another depending on your total. If the dealer has 5 then he must draw if your card is a 4-5-6-7.
Tips
- This tip is not to say that a player should never bet on the player hand, for sometimes a hunch can be the best thing going for a gambler. Since the house edge is relatively similar for both bets, it is presumptuous to entirely negate the player hand wager. Going back the card-counting issue, if a player does indeed insist on counting cards, they should pay attention to 6's and 4's.
- Many online casinos will offer different versions of baccarat, such as a one deck version, and a 6 or 8 deck version with higher minimum betting amounts. These same probabilities in a baccarat game with six decks are 457% on the banker hand, 443% on the player hand, and 91% on the Tie. A slight difference of only one hundredth of a percent shows, which is apparent when looking at the House Edge.
- On the banker bet, the casino charges a vig, or commission to counter the players advantage. Usually this commission is 5%, which returns a House Edge of approximately 15%.
- As for other bankroll management strategies, a good one is posted on this website. At the least, set yourself limits on losses and stake amounts.
