Baccarat History
The present form of Baccarat can be
traced back to Italy. More
recently, a lot of US casinos have offered “Mini Baccarat”.
How to Play Baccarat
There are three bets available: The
Player’s hand, the Banker’s hand, or a Tie. The winning hand is the
hand that holds two or three cards totaling closest to nine. Aces count as One and Two
through Nine are counted at face value. In
the classic game of Baccarat the deal rotates among the players. Natural hands always immediately win or Tie (although a 9 beats an
8). It was later on introduced in France around 1490 A. D. The title of banker rotates around the table in a manner similar to the dice at a craps table. If an eight or a nine was thrown, she would become the priestess; if she threw a six or seven, she would be banned from any further religious activities; if she threw any number less than six, she would walk into the sea. There exists quite a diversity today, especially so since it has made its way onto the world wide web. It has kept it's elegant trait and is still one of the most appealing games to the well situated individuals in our
society. The highest of the high rollers often come from overseas to try their hand under the chandeliers of the stylish Vegas baccarat rooms. The layout, conforms to the regular baccarat table and each of the seven seat positions correspond to a number and betting box with spots for banker, player, and tie.
Baccarat Rules
Betting on Tie is not really recommended because it decreases your winning
chances. Baccarat is a game of chance, all you have to decide is which
hand you think will win. If the value of the first card is a four, for instance,
the dealer will take the next four cards out of the shoe and discard them
in a tray next to it along with the first card. The baccarat game is now ready to
play. Each player is given the bank in
turn and can hold the bank as long as the bank wins. This
is not only the case with single card values but with the result of
two cards combined. So if you draw an eight in baccarat and a three, for
instance, the value of both together would be eleven but since the first
digit does not count your hand counts only one. Unlike in Black
Jack it is impossible to overdraw in Baccarat. Unlike blackjack, but
rather, like craps, multiple players around the table
can bet on which hand will win. After all is said
and done, the hand with a point total closes to nine
wins. The hand closest
to a total value of nine wins. One factor is how hand values are tabulated. The other is how drawing a third card is determined. a baccarat hand will never exceed
three cards total. All
cards numbered 2 through 9 are worth their numeric
value. A hand of seven and four has a
value of 1. I will try to simplify this as much as possible with a
few brief guidelines. Once the player hand is finished and
standing, the bank hand will determine whether it must
draw a third card. Winning bets on the player hand pay back 1 to 1, while
winning bets on the banker hand do the same, but with a
5% vig (commission) winning tie bets pay back 9 to 1. The game is played modulo 10, that is if the total of the hand is greater than 10, then 10 is subtracted from the total. (Thus the value of a hand is always between 0 through 9). An ace counts as 1, two counts as 2,
etc,, , up through nine counts as 9, but tens (jacks, queens and kings) count as 0.
- The maximum number of cards in a baccarat hand is three,,
- If the banker or the player has an eight (natural eight) or a nine (natural nine) on the first two cards dealt, no further cards are
drawn,,
- The player always draws when the hand is a five or less, unless the banker has a natural, and stands on a six and
seven,,
- the banker always stands if the player stands on a six or a seven
. The payout for winning a bet on the banker's or the player's hand is even money, or 1 to 1 and winning draw bets are paid off at 8 to 1 odds or 9 to 1 depending on where you are playing. If the player or banker has a two card total of 8 or 9, he/she turns the cards over immediately. Each player takes it in turns to deal from the shoe there is however no advantage to be gained from it and it is just part of the tradition of the game. The aim of the game is to get as close to 9 as possible and if you are nearer then you win. If either you or the dealer has a 6 or 7 then you must stand if you stand on a 6 or 7 then the dealer must hit on a score of less than 5. If the dealer has 0 then he must draw. If the dealer has 2 then he must draw. If the dealer has 7 then he must stand. If the dealer has 9 then he must stand.
Tips
- The banker hand does carry with it a 5% vig, or commission, bringing the House Edge up to 2%. This tip is not to say that a player should never bet on the player hand, for sometimes a hunch can be the best thing going for a gambler. When more 4's are leaving the deck, the banker bet has slightly better odds, whereas when 6's leave the deck, the player bet has a slightly better chance of winning than it does from the start of a fresh deck.
- For the player and tie hands in an eight deck game, the edge is slightly better in the eight deck games. Although this difference is so negligible that most players do not advise picking one version of baccarat over the other, it is advisable to take all the advantage one can possibly take.
- Usually this commission is 5%, which returns a House Edge of approximately 15%. Any informed player would see that this bet is one of the best in the casino.
- If you want to take your chances, then by all means use a system - just know when to quit. Whatever you decide to follow, be sure you plan ahead of time.
