Baccarat History
The present form of Baccarat can be
traced back to Italy. More
recently, a lot of US casinos have offered “Mini Baccarat”.
How to Play Baccarat
All
Tens and face cards have a value of 0. Aces count as One and Two
through Nine are counted at face value. In Mini Baccarat a casino
dealer handles the deal. Natural hands always immediately win or Tie (although a 9 beats an
8). After the Player’s hand is
complete, the Banker’s hand is dealt out according to the following
set of rules: If the Player did not draw a third card, then the
Banker only draws a card to a hand of 4 or less. It's difficult to trace back the origins of this game mainly because slight variations of it name are used in both countries, each wanting to claim it as theirs. It was later on introduced in France around 1490 A. D. It has kept it's elegant trait and is still one of the most appealing games to the well situated individuals in our
society. The highest of the high rollers often come from overseas to try their hand under the chandeliers of the stylish Vegas baccarat rooms. A number of casinos have installed a smaller version of the baccarat game played on standard blackjack-sized gaming tables. It is played by the exact same rules, but lacks the accoutrements of the formal version. Lacking the formality and large group of players, mini-baccarat is played fast and is a good place to learn how to
play.
Baccarat Rules
It doesn't matter which seat you take at the baccarat table because
unlike in Black Jack you are not playing against other players or against
the house. The only thing you are betting against is the cards. So never
mind what the other players bet on or how much they bet. Once the bank looses
it moves on to the next player. The player with the bank deals two sets of two cards, if of course the
game is played by two players. If
the first two cards dealt count Eight or Nine it is called a "Natural" and wins
automatically, unless both hands have the same
value then it is of course a Tie. When there is a Tie and you did not bet on it
nobody looses or wins. Unlike in Black
Jack it is impossible to overdraw in Baccarat. Much like blackjack, two
hands are played - a dealer and a player hand pitted
against each other. Unlike blackjack, but
rather, like craps, multiple players around the table
can bet on which hand will win. The hand closest
to a total value of nine wins. a baccarat hand will never exceed
three cards total. Tabulating the hand value is straightforward
and only takes simple mathematics of addition. All other cards (tens and picture cards) are
worth zero points. I will try to simplify this as much as possible with a
few brief guidelines. If
both hands have an 8 or 9, the game is deemed a tie, in
which all Tie Bets win. The following guidelines determine
what action the Bank Hand will take: On a side note, if the player hand
does not draw a card, the banker hand will always
draw if its value is lower than the player hand or
if its own two-card value is 0, 1, or 2. Banker shows a 3
Banker Hand must Draw if player's draw card is a
0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7
Banker Hand must Stand if player's draw card is an 8. After the dealer has finished drawing,
the hands are added up and a winner is declared. An ace counts as 1, two counts as 2,
etc,, , up through nine counts as 9, but tens (jacks, queens and kings) count as 0. If the player or banker has a two card total of 8 or 9, he/she turns the cards over immediately. The other must do so also. The player stands on a total of 6 or 7, but if the player has a total of 5 or less he/she must draw one card (face up)
Now it is the bankers turn. With a total of 6 or less, his selection depends on the value of his two card total and the value of the card that the player drew. It may still be a good idea to try it online first, and within minutes you'll feel comfortable enough to play anywhere. Baccarat has a reputation for being a high rollers game and the tables are normally separate from the rest of the casino in there own section called the pit. This means the game is quite simple especially as there are only three possible bets that can be made. When the bank wins the house claims a %5 cut of the winnings and the total amount is collected every time the shoe is reshuffled. If the dealer has 2 then he must draw. If the dealer has 5 then he must draw if your card is a 4-5-6-7. If the dealer has 8 then he must stand. Once all the hands are dealt it is closest to 9 that wins.
Tips
- This tip is not to say that a player should never bet on the player hand, for sometimes a hunch can be the best thing going for a gambler. in the long run, a player should be making more bets on the banker than on the player. As for the tie wager, it should be out of the question since it gives a casino advantage of nearly 15%.
- A slight difference of only one hundredth of a percent shows, which is apparent when looking at the House Edge. For an eight deck game, the casino advantage on the banker hand is 16%, whereas it is 15% in a six deck game. For the player and tie hands in an eight deck game, the edge is slightly better in the eight deck games.
- Play Baccarat at Casinos with the lowest commission possible. On the banker bet, the casino charges a vig, or commission to counter the players advantage.
- Manage your money wisely, without a "system". If you want to take your chances, then by all means use a system - just know when to quit.
